Three people robbed my store this month. None of them walked through the door. Here's how it works on TikTok Shop: Every product you list is automatically tagged as a "refundable sample." No opt in. It's just on. A creator can grab your item, and if they make content that drives sales, TikTok refunds them. Fine. That's the deal. But there's a loophole. If the item goes out of stock and the creator "can't make content," TikTok refunds them automatically. No content required. Now think about what I sell. One-of-one graded PSA slabs. The second someone buys it, it's out of stock. Every time. So the playbook is simple: Order a unique slab as a "sample" Wait for it to sell out (it already did, they bought it) Get your money back Keep the slab Three different people figured this out. I called TikTok support. Their answer, basically: that setting was on by default, and it was my job to know that. I've been in business since I was 8 years old. I've sold over $135M in product. I'm a licensed attorney. And a default option I never saw got me. I never even logged into the affiliate side of TikTok. That's the part that gets me. Not the money. The fact that the system is built so the honest seller eats the loss and the platform shrugs. If you sell on TikTok Shop, go check your sample settings today. Especially if you sell anything one-of-a-kind. Don't learn this one the way I did.
