A store event can lose money on the night and still earn its place on the calendar. It might help new players get started, give regulars a reason to return, or introduce customers to products they would otherwise never try. Those are reasonable reasons to invest. They become harder to evaluate when every weak result is explained away as “community building.” I would give each recurring event a purpose and a budget. A competitive event, a beginner session, and an open-play evening can serve different goals. Track direct contribution after prizes and staffing, repeat attendance, newcomer return visits, and subsequent purchases where they can be measured sensibly. Attendance alone will not tell you whether the event is working. Neither will requiring every session to generate immediate profit. The store needs a sustainable way to provide the space people value. Which event would you keep despite weak immediate sales and what would justify that decision?
