My dad and I owned restaurants for most of my life. Everything was a fight.

My dad and I owned restaurants for most of my life.
Everything was a fight.
The POS. The menu boards. The phones. The website. The marketing. Every tool cost real money, broke constantly, and locked you into some vendor's contract. If you wanted something custom built, forget it. That was for chains with deep pockets.
So you went without. You did the books by hand. You wrote the specials on a whiteboard. You lost orders because the phone system was garbage. Not because you didn't know better. Because the good tools were priced for somebody else.
That gap is gone now.
I rebuilt my card store's website in one day with AI. Built a custom buylist app in a week. Total software cost, basically nothing. Twenty years ago that's a $50k project and six months of meetings.
That's the part I can't get over. A single-location restaurant can now have the operational sophistication of a chain. Any tool you can describe, you can build.
Reservation flow, inventory tracking, scheduling, repricing, whatever eats your week. Build it, take it off your plate, keep the margin.
I wonder what my dad would think. All those years of duct tape and workarounds, and now the solution is sitting there nearly free for anyone willing to type.
If you run a restaurant or a shop and you're still going without, you don't have to anymore.
What's the first thing you'd take off your plate?
