My Father Gave Me a Book. Tomorrow It Puts Pokémon Cards on DoorDash.
My dad gave me a copy of Guerrilla Marketing by Jay Conrad Levinson.
I was young. He probably figured I would skim it and forget it.
Instead it rewired my brain.
The whole premise of that book is simple. You do not need a giant budget to get noticed. You need imagination, energy, and a little willingness to make people raise an eyebrow.
Ever since, I have chased one thing harder than almost anything else in this business. Getting our name and our products in front of people for free.
Some of those ideas worked. A few were spectacularly bad. Every single one taught me something.
So here is the latest one.
Tomorrow, Izzi's Gym goes live on DoorDash.
Yes, DoorDash. The app you open for tacos at 9pm.
Starting tomorrow you can order Pokémon cards from us and have them show up at your door, right next to somebody else's burrito. No drive across town. No getting dressed. No "sorry, we just closed."
Which leaves me with one question I cannot wait to answer.
How many people out there NEED Pokémon or Kayou or One Piece cards right now but do not want to get off the couch to go get them?
Something tells me the number is higher than anyone would admit.
Here is what my father understood decades before DoorDash existed.
Marketing was never really about the budget. It is about meeting people where they already are. In their pocket. On their phone. On the couch on a Sunday afternoon.
The tools keep changing. The lesson never does.
Thanks, Dad. This one is for you.
Sioux Falls, open DoorDash tomorrow and search Izzi's Gym. Let's find out how many couches in this town are one tap away from a booster box.
