April 18th is closer than you think (or exactly what you think if you think its 13 days away).
The My Little Pony TCG hits major retailers and Izzi's Gym in two weeks — and most of the hobby world is still sleeping on it.
Tier4 just published the most thorough breakdown of the Friendship Begins starter decks I've seen.
A few things that stood out:
• The win condition isn't life points — you win by completing your character's story arc from Friendship Is Magic. Twilight Sparkle's deck walks you through Elements of Harmony stage by stage. Every deck plays out a different episode. That's a game design choice nobody else is making.
• 13 rarity tiers, each with a genuinely distinct visual treatment. Not just incrementally shinier — categorically different art styles, frames, and finishes at every level. The ultra-chase cards look like illuminated manuscript pages.
• $18 MSRP with three bonus booster packs and a paper playmat included. Kayou clearly wants people in the hobby, NOT priced out of it.
• Over 7 million packs sold across Asia before a single pack hit US shelves. Lines out the door at launch in Japan.
This one's worth paying attention to.
